Permanent Residence & Refugee

A careful approach to a life in Canada.

Permanent residence, family unity and protection matters are deeply personal. We help organize the facts, identify the relevant process and prepare a clear, well-supported presentation of the circumstances that matter.

02 / 01

Permanent residence applications

Permanent residence planning starts with the applicant's history, current circumstances and potential pathway. We assess the information provided, identify documents and issues that need attention, and help prepare an application within the agreed scope. Consistency across personal, education, employment and immigration histories is an important part of preparation.

How we help

  • Pathway and application planning
  • Supporting-document and form review
  • Submissions and responses to relevant requests

Spousal & common-law sponsorship

Sponsorship applications need a coherent account of the relationship and careful attention to the sponsor's and applicant's circumstances. We help clients understand the information requested, assemble meaningful evidence and address issues raised by prior history, missing documents or inconsistent information.

How we help

  • Relationship-history and evidence preparation
  • Sponsor and applicant document review
  • Application preparation and procedural responses
02 / 03

Family sponsorship

Family sponsorship rules differ according to the relationship and the program involved. We review the proposed sponsorship, identify the questions that need to be resolved and discuss the practical requirements before preparing the application. Eligibility and available intake opportunities must be assessed for the particular category.

How we help

  • Assessment of the proposed family category
  • Document organization and application support
  • Review of correspondence and requests

Refugee claims & hearing preparation

A protection claim requires a clear account of the claimant's circumstances and evidence relevant to the issues the Refugee Protection Division must decide. We assist with claim preparation, the Basis of Claim narrative, supporting material and preparation for the hearing process. We work from the client's actual experience; accuracy and consistency are essential.

How we help

  • Basis of Claim and chronology preparation
  • Personal and country-condition evidence review
  • Hearing preparation and representation

Humanitarian & compassionate applications

Humanitarian and compassionate relief is discretionary and is not a substitute for every immigration pathway. We examine the relevant circumstances, including establishment, family connections, hardship and the interests of children where applicable, and discuss how the evidence can be organized in support of the request.

How we help

  • Individual circumstances and suitability assessment
  • Evidence planning and written submissions
  • Careful presentation of relevant humanitarian factors

Pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA)

A PRRA is a specific process with its own eligibility, timing and evidence requirements. Where that process is available, we review the notice and relevant history, assess the evidence and prepare submissions addressing the applicable protection issues. A PRRA should not be assumed to be available or suitable in every case.

How we help

  • Review of the PRRA notice and eligibility issues
  • Risk evidence and document preparation
  • Written submissions within the agreed mandate

PR cards & residency questions

Questions about a permanent resident card, travel history or residency obligations require a review of the actual record. We help organize periods of presence and absence, identify relevant supporting documents and discuss the application or response appropriate to the matter. A PR card and permanent resident status are not interchangeable concepts.

How we help

  • Travel-history and residency-document review
  • PR card application and renewal assistance
  • Advice on status-related correspondence
Need to challenge a decision? See our Federal Court & CBSA page for appeals and judicial review.

What to prepare.

  • Your current status and the type of help you are seeking.
  • Relevant application or claim history, including earlier decisions.
  • A family, relationship or personal chronology as appropriate.
  • Any notices or requests that identify a response date.

Keep sensitive information for the appropriate intake process. The initial enquiry form is not for evidence or document uploads.

Important: Protection and humanitarian processes have different requirements. Advice must be tailored to the actual process and facts; no application or claim outcome can be promised.

Common questions.

Can you help with both sponsorship and a refugee claim?

These are separate types of matters. The office will assess the applicable process, potential issues and proposed scope before accepting a particular engagement.

Should I send my full refugee narrative in the first enquiry?

No. Begin with contact details and the general type of matter. Ask for the appropriate intake and document-sharing process before providing sensitive information.

Where do I find help challenging a refusal?

Our Federal Court & CBSA practice page explains judicial review and assessment of available appeals. The right route depends on the decision and your circumstances.
